Arahunga School Hubs

Arahunga has hubs for our enrolled students based at local host schools. These classes allow our students access to specialist programmes and therapy while also having the opportunity to be included in host school learning activities alongside their age peer groups.

Our School is dedicated to meeting the unique learning needs of students from 5 - 21 years of age and gives learners with specialist education needs an opportunity to work in small classes with a very high staff ratio. Our classes typically have 4 - 6 students with a skilled and experienced team of teachers working alongside our support staff team. This means our learners have access to quality learning programmes tailored to meet their individual needs. The New Zealand Curriculum is personalized to ensure it meets the specific learning profile of each student and includes a focus on Literacy and Numeracy as well as the Key Competencies which emphasize Social, Communication, Physical and Self-Management skills and development.

Arahunga School has its own highly skilled Specialist Services Team. All learners are able to access regular Specialist Therapy as each class has at least weekly contact with a team of specialists which can include: Speech Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Music Therapist and Special Education Adviser.

Our classes are all located at host schools. Currently we have classes located at the following schools:

Carlton School

Tawhero School

Rutherford Intermediate

Whanganui City College

Ramanui School  (Hawera)

Otaki College

Francis Douglas Memorial College (New Plymouth)

St Joseph's School (New Plymouth)

Having our classes located onsite at host schools enables our learners access specialist learning programmes while also having inclusive opportunities alongside other learners in the host schools.

In addition to classes located at host schools, we have the following classes at our base school.

Campus Senior

Campus Junior

Transition Classes

Our transition learners are aged from approximately 17 - 21 years of age and are engaged in a range of life skills and work experience activities designed to prepare these young people for life beyond school.
