Francis Douglas Memorial College Hub

Meet Our Hub Staff

The Benilde Hub (New Plymouth)

The Benilde Hub is Specialist Learning Hub for boys with complex needs within the Francis Douglas Memorial College (FDMC) community. This hub operates in partnership with FDMC and Arahunga Specialist School. FDMC hosts the hub and Arahunga School provides the specialist teaching staffing and programmes to meet the individual needs of the learners.

The Benilde Hub supports an inclusive hub model where all the boys are fully included in as many classes and activities at FDMC as possible. The boys are enrolled at Arahunga School but all strongly identify as FDMC students. An enrolment in the Benilde Hub (operated by Arahunga School) gives the boys the opportunity to fully participate as a FDMC student while having access to a highly skilled and experienced teaching team. Each learner has a personalised programme specifically designed to meet their individual needs. The Benilde Hub operates with a very high staff ratio and this enables the boys to receive support they need whether this is within mainstream classes or specialized targeted teaching in small groups.

Who can enroll in the Benilde Hub?

The boys must be part of the FDMC Catholic community and have ORS funding. Families wanting to consider the Benide Learning Hub as an educational option for their son should firstly contact the FDMC Principal Tim Stuck to discuss details of the enrolment. Tim will then refer the family the Arahunga Principal to discuss the needs of the learner.

Visits are encouraged to the Learning Hub to ensure that this is the best education option for the learner.

All potential enrolments at Arahunga School need to have a Section 37 pre-approved by the Ministry of Education. Once a Section 37 is approved the enrolment process for a placement at Arahunga can be completed.
